 Sssh!  Filming in Progress
Posted on 23 September 2018
The former ‘Monster Building’ in Southall, Ealing, London, has been given a new lease of life thanks to the British film industry and the Silent Roof noise reduction technology.
The factory site, which produced cereals including the famous ‘Honey Monster’ Sugar Puffs until 2016, was disused until its recent discovery by location scout company, Location Collective. However, while we may have just enjoyed the best summer in decades, Location Collective know that the rain noise produced by the traditional British weather does not mix well with profiled metal roof film sets, as downtime is an expensive burden on their budget. Searching on the Internet for a cure to their problem, they found the only externally installed product that dramatically reduces rain noise, before hitting the metal roof. They enlisted the help of Silent Roof Ltd, who carried out the installation on the factory’s 5,400 square metre metal roof. The installation is now completed and the Monster Building is currently being converted into a film set where a serialised production is being prepared. This will be televised at some later date via Sky Atlantic.

At this time (2007), the version of Silent Roof Material (SRM) was a translucent version, basically white in colour. This was utilised on conservatory roofs all over the UK. Silent Roof Ltd now concentrates it’s activities in the commercial sector where a black version of SRM is utilised.

1917 is launched in the USA on December 25, prior to a worldwide release on January 10, 2020.

Silent Roof - Operating in the
background on a Sky One Production

Silent Roof Material (SRM), reduces rain noise to a whisper for the filming of ‘Temple’ the new Sky Original on Sky One. In September 2018 the filming location known locally as the ‘Monster’ building in Southall London, was taken over for the filming of this Sky series adaptation of the Norwegian television Valkyrien, which first aired in 2017. It stars Mark Strong, Carice Van Houten, and Daniel Mays and was commissioned on 23 August 2018. The roof of the building where certain sequences were shot, was totally covered with SRM protecting the sound recording of the production from rain noise interruptions and consequential additional costs associated with re-takes.
Daniel Milton (Mark Strong) is a surgeon who, driven by personal tragedy, operates an illegal clinic deep below London’s Temple tube station for those who either wish to remain outside the system, or for those desperate enough to seek treatment unavailable through conventional means. Aided by disgruntled underground worker Lee (Daniel Mays) and guilt-ridden medical researcher Anna (Carice van Houten), Daniel’s dangerous and unpredictable clientele test his morality to the limit. But if it means he can save the person he loves, it will all be worth it.
